‘Spotlight on a Song’

And I’m back! It’s Friday. What a week. Living in the PNW gives you so many beautiful places to go and visit just by hopping in a car. I still have a lot of ground to cover but this past week I covered Oregon. And all I can say is wow. How I love that state.

One thing about road trips…..lots of time to think. And it’s easy when you’re surrounded by the enormity of mountains, trees and craters with nothing but time.

Today’s ‘Spotlight’ artist are called The Weepies. I was fortunate enough to see them years ago in a little venue back when I lived in Chicago. They are a husband and wife duo who make beautiful music together. And, one of the few couples who share the spotlight who haven’t broken up. Isn’t that the truth!

In 2001, Talan and Tannen were individually active as singer-songwriters but mutual fans of each other’s music; Tannen played Talan’s album “constantly”, even singing along in harmony, while Talan in turn was captivated by and had “formed a kind of a relationship” with Tannen’s music. After eventually meeting at one of Tannen’s shows at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts, they quickly discovered a deep musical bond and began playing music together. According to Talan, the band’s name “came about from a few different sources, but one was, you know, those sort of old movies that were called weepies, where you could basically be guaranteed that if you needed a good cry, you could go and see one of these and bring your hanky and have a good time. And we want to be able to provide that for people. We want to make music that touches them and moves them in that way, the place where tears come from, for joy and for sorrow.” I LOVE THAT!

This song in particular is a song I’ve played in the past. It captures how you feel when you lose a special person in your life. Even if only briefly. Sometimes forever. And makes you realize just how much life can be empty when someone that you care for disappears in any capacity. This little story is only two minutes long and would be a shame if you didn’t watch. You won’t be sorry.

As always….strum a little…..
