“Spot light on a Song”
Happy Friday music appreciators! And happy snow in Seattle! Whoo hoo!! I don’t particularly enjoy the snow or miss it much, however it’s nice to see and the fact that it will all be melted in a matter of minutes is tolerable. I just returned from a beautiful open mic I attend monthly. Seeing friends while making new ones and playing music soothes my soul.
in 2002, I recall hearing the song “Do You Realize” in a little cafe I lived near. I stopped mid-sentence when it got my attention and immediately needed to know who it was and have been a big fan ever since. This band has been around for over 30 years and have produced over 15 albums! I’m super excited because they are releasing a new album early next year. Hopefully they go on tour because I hear their live shows are worth seeing.
The Flaming Lips formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1983. Instrumentally, their sound contains lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements. Lyrically their compositions show elements of space rock, rock-eretta.
I heard this song today which had me silent again, immediately searching the radio website for the artist. Sure enough it was The Flaming Lips. Typically I share original songs of the artists I ‘Spot light’. But I had to share this with you; especially since yesterday marked the 36th anniversary of John Lennon’s death. Just imagine life today if his voice was still here to speak out and make a difference. I can’t imagine a more beautiful tribute exists. Take a few minutes to spin this record and remember to stay positive and do what you love.
Strum a little….
