‘Spot light on a Song’
Hello Friday! I can’t believe how much rain Seattle has gotten the past month. I’m slowly drying out and appreciate the days it is dry.
I heard today’s ‘spot light’ artist on the radio this week and took a little trip back in time. For a moment his music can make you forget what’s actually happening around you.
Alexi Murdoch Murdoch was born in London, 1973 and moved to America in 1992 to study at Duke University before moving to Los Angeles, California to be with a girlfriend. As Murdoch began gaining serious interest from the industry, Murdoch opted to release his music independently.
He self-released the EP ‘Four Songs’ through independent record stores and website CD Baby in November 2002. CD Baby sold over 50,000 copies of the release, becoming the site’s all-time best-selling record.
Murdoch’s first album, Time Without Consequence, was released on 6 June 2006, again on his own label. The album became one of the most licensed albums of the decade, receiving placements on dozens of films and television.
Often compared to singer-songwriter Nick Drake, Murdoch has only released one other album in 2011. He’s been off the radar for quite some time and I’m hopeful we’ll hear from him again soon.
Take a moment to go sit by the sea and take in an evening Orange Sky. You’ll think of this song next time you do.
Strum a little….
