“Spot light on a Song”
Happy Friday music fans! Wow. What a week. My first song from my new album was released in addition to a week of you guessed it…..RAIN! Rain, rain, rain and more rain! But the sun is shining again. As it always will if you hang on tight enough. And do I have a song for you to sink your pearly whites into.
This is the type of song that is everything good. EVERYTHING. It is what the best songs are made of. I kick myself when I hear a song like this asking “why didn’t I think of that? I say it all the time!” I will play a song like this on repeat. Yes; over and over. While baking my weekly bread. Because it’s that good and not long enough to make me feel satisfied. Clear, emotional, articulate yet not pretentious. Heart rock at its finest. Less is more.
Shawn Mullins is not a new name known for his hits and songwriting. He started as a kid. And made a successful career of it. I haven’t heard from him in quite a while. But I did this week from his recent 2015 album. Personally, this song doesn’t need the ‘pop Nashville flare’ it adds and breaks into when hitting the chorus. But that’s what constitutes pop music today I guess…..and strongly disagree with. From the heart beats at the beginning to the beautiful cello. His voice. The pedal steel guitar. It’s magnificent. And pulling off a great song using the word ‘stupid’ is the most unbelievable part of this song for me. A word not even allowed in my house! But it sure resonates. My stupid heart.
This song leaves me speechless. And it will for you too. Have a wonderful weekend and week of music! And please check out my new song ‘You Never Know’ at www.abbykmusic.com. Please support new artists!
Strum a little….
