‘Spotlight on a Song’
Happy Friday music fans! Did I ever mention I grew up in Louisville; KY? That’s pronounced “Looavul” for the record. I’m certain I have. Today my hometown is in the spotlight burying one of the world’s greatest athletes ever: Muhammad Ali, aka Cassius Marcellus Clay. He was only 74 and known as an inspiring activist, controversial and polarizing figure both inside and outside the ring.
Muhammad Ali was larger than life. I had the amazing opportunity to meet him a few times during my childhood. He was one with all people and never turned anyone away. He was “the greatest”; no argument there.
And seeing this is a ‘music blog’, Mr. Clay appreciated that too. He was a recording artist in addition to his heavyweight titles, criticisms of American War efforts, and advocating African American pride and racial justice. Who knew?! You can check out his record “I Am The Greatest” on YouTube. Today’s song is a gem. Not so much for the song but for the man he is singing with; a personal favorite of mine, Sam Cooke. Absolutely priceless.
So keep your guns up and long live “The Greatest”!
Strum a little….
