‘Spot light on a Song’
I love road trips! I’m planning a killer one for this summer and getting a little preview of life on the road as I head up to Eastern Washington for the weekend. There is nothing like driving through our great country; NOTHING.
I was introduced to an artist recently who I will proudly share with you this morning. His name is John Moreland. And although he was born in Texas and now lives in Tulsa, he did spend a few of his younger years in Northern Kentucky– just another reason why I’m drawn to his music. Musical influencers of Moreland’s youth include: Steve Earle, Guy Clark, and Townes Van Zandt– need I say more?
Though Moreland’s earlier music was more rock-based, his more recent releases are characterized as being sparsely acoustic. He is characterized as a “songwriter’s songwriter”. And spoken from a true songwriter, you may interpret that any which way you choose.
American television host and political commentator Rachel Maddow tweeted praise of Moreland’s work: “If the American music business made any sense, guys like John Moreland would be household names.” Incase this isn’t reason enough to take a listen, during the summer of 2015, Moreland opened for Dawes and Patty Griffin. AMEN.
Strum a little…..
