‘Spotlight on a Song’
Well today is a very special day because it’s May 13th. And not just because it’s my favorite number. Today is my dear old dad’s birthday. Happy Birthday Dad! You are one in a million.
And I have him to thank for always encouraging me to sing and pursue my passions. I remember when he used to tell me I could be a country singer as I would sing Crystal Gayle’s ‘Don’t it Make Your Brown Eyes Blue’ until he was blue in his face! I’m not sure I really took that as a compliment (being country just wasn’t cool to a 10 year old!)
However, his instincts and observations were pretty spot on. My love for early country music like Patsy, Hank, Johnny and Willie, heavily resonate with me today as an artist. And although I am more of an alternative country singer, part of me wishes I sounded just like them; the real deal.
So this one is for you dear dad. This was one of those golden tunes I’d watch you belt out in the car when it came over the radio; me, your little girl siting next to you enjoying your carefree love for life. So pour yourself a nice glass of wine, find a piece of key lime pie and enjoy your special day. I wish you the happiest and healthiest of them always. I love you.
Strum a little….
