‘Spotlight on a Song’
Yeah it’s Friday! And I’m so happy because my parents are in town visiting this weekend. I feel blessed to have them.
Today’s song highlight is from a beautiful singer songwriter Lucy Kaplansky. I was fortunate to be able to see her perform in someone’s living room this week.
Kaplansky was originally from Chicago; at the age of 18, she decided not to go to college, but moved to New York City, where she became involved in the city’s folk music scene, particularly around Greenwich Village, where she played with, among others, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell.
In 1983, she decided to become a psychologist. For several years, she concentrated largely on this work, and played little in the way of concerts.
But, as all flowers bloom, by the early 1990s she found herself increasingly drawn back to music. In 1994 she decided to give up her psychology practice and return to music full-time.
Lucy played this song for us at her show. A favorite by all song and music appreciators and a sweet shout out to Bruce!
Have a lovely weekend!
Strum a little….
