‘Spot light on a Song’
I interrupt the regularly scheduled blog to stop and dance. It’s funny how this song still comes into play for the world when celebrating something special with family. I’m on an airplane this very moment to do just that!
“We Are Family” is a song by Sister Sledge, composed by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. Rodgers and Edwards offered the song to Atlantic Records; although the record label initially declined. Nothing like a fact like that to remind us all of the power of perseverance and the logevity it can hold.
Symbolizing strong family values, the siblings achieved international success at the height of the disco era.
The chorus (and the title) makes reference to the literal fact that the group are the four sisters of a family. The song has since gone on to be used more generally as an expression of solidarity in various contexts. The lead vocals were recorded in a single take by then-19-year-old Kathy Sledge!
Sing it sister! Oh——AND DANCE!
Strum a little….
